Bike Storage & Rack Options for Opus Caravans - OP13, OP15, OP17

What bike rack options are available for the Opus Caravans.

Short answer: Purple Line LLC / Opus Camper does not offer, sell, or recommend any bike carrier, rack, or storage solution for the OP13, OP15, or OP17 models. These are hard-sided, non-folding camper trailers and do not include a fold-over cargo rack (or any equivalent mounting point) found on the folding models (OP4, OP4 LE, OP2). The Purple Line single bike carriers are not compatible with OP13/OP15/OP17.

Official Purple Line / Opus Position

  • No factory bike rack, cargo rack, roof rack, or bike carrier accessory is available or supported on OP13, OP15, OP17.
  • No official bike storage solution exists for these models from Purple Line or Opus Camper.
  • Adding aftermarket bike racks (roof-mounted, rear-mounted, hitch-mounted on the trailer, or otherwise) is an owner modification:
    • Not tested or approved by Purple Line LLC.
    • May affect aerodynamics, weight distribution, structural integrity, or warranty coverage if damage results.
    • Any installation is at the owner’s risk and responsibility.

Common Owner Approaches (Not Officially Supported or Recommended)

The most practical and widely used method reported by OP13/OP15/OP17 owners is to carry bikes on the tow vehicle rather than on the trailer:

  • Tow vehicle hitch-mounted bike racks (recommended for 2–4 bikes)
    • Mount a 2–4 bike platform or hanging rack on the tow vehicle’s receiver hitch (common brands: Swagman, Thule, Yakima, Curt).
    • Ensure the rack provides adequate clearance from the trailer tongue and DO35 hitch during turns and full articulation.
    • Verify total bike weight stays within the hitch receiver rating and does not exceed tongue weight limits.
    • Test the setup for stability and sway at highway speeds.
  • Tow vehicle roof racks
    • Use crossbars + bike mounts on the tow vehicle roof for smaller loads.
    • This keeps bikes completely separate from the trailer.
