OP15 Heating and Cooling Guide
This guide makes it easy to stay comfortable year-round on your off-road trips.
Beat the cold or heat with your OP15’s Truma Combi heater and hot water system, plus the Dometic 13,500 BTU A/C! This guide makes it easy to stay comfortable year-round on your off-road trips.
Setting Up and Using the Truma Combi Heater
- Initial Setup: The Truma Combi is typically installed under a bed or in the floor well, with vents near the ceiling. Connect it to the 2x20-lb propane tanks via the quick-connect and ensure the 12V battery is on (red key activated).
- Turning On: Reset the digital thermostat by holding the button for 5 seconds until it beeps. Set your desired temperature (e.g., 65°F), and the unit will ignite automatically, circulating warm air via its fan.
- Hot Water: Switch to the hot water mode on the thermostat to heat the 2.6-gallon tank—perfect for showers after a day on the trail.
- Turning Off: Rotate the thermostat to “Off” and wait 2-3 minutes for the fan to cool. Turn off the propane valve for safety.
Setting Up and Using the Dometic 13,500 BTU A/C
- Initial Setup: The A/C unit is roof-mounted—connect to a 120V, 30 Amp shore power source or a generator (minimum 2000W) using the exterior hookup.
- Cooling Mode: Turn on the A/C breaker on the control panel, set the thermostat to “Cool,” and choose a temperature (e.g., 75°F). Cold air should flow in 5-10 minutes.
- Heat Pump Mode: Switch to “Heat” (effective above 40°F) for mild warmth—adjust the fan speed for comfort.
- Shutting Down: Turn off the breaker and thermostat, then disconnect power if moving. Remove the exterior cover for storage to prevent weather damage.
Performance Tips
- Truma Combi: Delivers 4000-8000 BTU (depending on mode) and heats the 280” interior in 15-20 minutes. A 20-lb propane tank lasts 20-30 hours on low settings.
- Dometic A/C: Cools effectively up to 95°F outdoors; the heat pump adds gentle warmth but isn’t a primary heater.
Maintenance and Care
- Truma Combi: Clean vents with a vacuum annually, and have a technician service the burner and heat exchanger yearly.
- Dometic A/C: Wash the interior filter monthly with mild soap, and brush the condenser fins gently each year to maintain airflow.
Safety Tips
- Keep vents clear to avoid carbon monoxide risks with the Truma Combi.
- Use the A/C only with a stable power source to prevent electrical issues.
- Test the LP/CO detector monthly and ventilate during propane use.
