Should tires be aired down when off roading?
Official guidance for 2019–current OPUS models on airing down tires
The Opus suspension system is engineered and tested specifically for off-road conditions. Factory-recommended tire pressure is 80 psi cold. Airing down tires is not recommended and is not required for optimal performance or safety.
Recommended Tire Pressure
- All conditions (on-road and off-road): 80 psi cold (measured when tires have not been driven for at least 3 hours).
- This pressure provides the correct balance of load-carrying capacity, sidewall stability, and ride quality for the independent suspension and axle rating.
Off-Road Guidance Do not reduce tire pressure below 80 psi when going off-road.
Reasons
- The suspension is purpose-built to absorb off-road impacts without needing lower tire pressure.
- Airing down can reduce sidewall stiffness, increasing the risk of tire damage, reduced stability, and compromised braking performance.
- Maintaining 80 psi ensures consistent handling, trailer tracking, and frame protection under load.
What to Do Instead
- Keep tires at 80 psi at all times.
- Focus on proper suspension maintenance, correct load distribution, and driving technique for off-road conditions.
- If you experience excessive frame stress or jarring, contact Opus support with your VIN for suspension or tire-specific advice.

Safety Notes
- Always check and set tire pressure when tires are cold.
- Never exceed the tire manufacturer’s maximum pressure stamped on the sidewall.
- Incorrect tire pressure can void tire warranty and affect vehicle stability.
